As always most of the news we hear today is about the Middle East. As you know our president just returned from Israel, and our new Secretary of State just met with the Iraqi government to negotiate how to bring an end to the crisis in Syria. We read today that the Lebanese Prime Minister has just resigned, bringing to the fore-front the fear that the Syrian civil war will spill over into Lebanon in a sectarian fashion.
We as ministers of the Gospel believe there is no end to this kind of conflict. The end will only come when the Prince of Peace takes over the entire world, and the god of this world will be locked away for a thousand years. Our enemy is not any nation. It is the devil, the enemy of God. When the Prince of Peace takes over, the world will then experience the peace it longs for.
In the meantime we must remember what the heavenly host sang at the birth of Jesus: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace and good will towards men!” This is the peace that is in the hearts of individuals. We call it being born again as people are changed from the inside out.
This is the responsibility of the church. I am so thankful that I have been a part of this for the last sixty two years, as a voice of Good News to individuals who will respond. Thousands and even millions have been changed! So, politics is not the answer. Diplomacy is not the answer. Foreign aid is not the answer. The true lasting answer is for people’s hearts to be changed. Only the Gospel can do that. So, keep looking up, for your redemption is drawing nigh!
